About the founder
A student building space for other students to be seen.
The Unbound Canvas Collective was founded by Ayala Levy, a sophomore at Needham High School, whose passions for art, academics, and community impact have grown in tandem over time.
From a young age, Ayala has been deeply engaged in the visual arts, consistently drawing and painting while developing a strong interest in conceptual work and creative expression. She has expanded her practice through the Visual Arts Summer Institute at Boston University, exhibiting in galleries, and selling pieces — viewing art not only as a personal outlet but as a powerful means of communicating ideas and identity.
Alongside her artistic pursuits, Ayala is a dedicated student who values academic rigor. Through her experiences in school and community spaces, she became aware of a common divide: programs are often forced to prioritize either academic enrichment or the arts. She believes the impact is strongest when they're integrated.
Her community work began in middle school with Horizons, where she started as a classroom volunteer and grew into a role supporting outreach and engagement. She noticed a consistent gap in access to structured arts programming — and the powerful effect that even small creative opportunities had on student confidence.
In parallel, Ayala served on the board of Youth in Philanthropy, evaluating nonprofit grants and conducting site visits across MetroWest. She also works at Artists For Humanity, contributing to large-scale creative projects and installations.
These experiences — spanning art, academics, and service — led to the creation of The Unbound Canvas Collective: a structured arts program that expands access to meaningful creative opportunities for young people.

Our belief
Art belongs at the center, not the edge.
Creativity is how kids make sense of the world and their place in it. When we hand a 9-year-old a brush, a pigment chemistry lesson, and a teen mentor doing real work — they don't just make a painting. They build a voice. That voice is what changes the world.
